Umami Mia Pizzeria, brought to Austin by restaurant experts Mark Turner, Rick Engel (Austin Java, Lil’ Woodrows), and Adam Weisberg (Zen, Lucky Robot) will open in early May in the space once occupied by Romeo’s.

The concept is to bring the umami flavor to life in the form of pizza, salads, and sandwiches. What exactly is the flavor of umami, though? It’s hard to translate into words, but think about a savory flavor that makes your mouth water while stimulating your throat, the roof and the back of your mouth. That’s umami.

With Executive Chef George Thomas (Soleil, Paggi House, Kenichi, and Imperia) running the kitchen, patrons are sure to be coming back for more. Another selling point is the restaurant’s late night hours.
